Malaïka Islam-Weber was born in 1957 to a Swiss mother and a Sudanese father. In her adult life, and over a period of thirty years, Malaïka explored the many aspects of dance at home as well as in a number of voyages abroad, discovering and practicing contemporary, African, Oriental, classical Indian and Butoh dance styles, as well as oriental dance arts using staffs and fans. Along with her passion for the martial arts, the health problems she encountered in her early years led her to specialise in Zen Shiatsu – an effective preventive health technique she has been practicing since 1982. Later, to round off her exploration of the world of dance, she took training in dance therapy. Malaïka has named the fruit of her exploration Balance in movement – an approach to the body, its movement and rhythms, which she teaches to anyone who wishes to develop their knowledge of themselves and the pleasure of their own movement. Alongside her work in therapy and dance she also poses as a model for professional photographers in illustrating dance, yoga and other themes in a variety of magazines while at the same time contributing to developing choreography for dance performances and fashion shows. Malaïka lives and works in Switzerland, but remains available for photo sessions, courses, workshops and training seminars abroad. |
